Notation in the Learn and Explore section

The following notation is used throughout the Learn and Explore sections to simplify navigating the Web Admin and understanding the hierarchy of the Global, Local and User parameters.

Parameter Notation

Parameters are used to customize the Diga system. Parameters are made of individual keys (settings), which are located in a logical folder structure (see Web Admin below). This section gives an overview of the notation used to navigate in this parameter tree. Note that the Admin.exe uses a different notation, please see the Warning section below.

Parameter syntax and Vertical bars (|)

In this documentation parameter syntax, vertical bars separate folders from keys and subfolders (e.g. |Folder|SubFolder|Key).

If there is a vertical bar at the end of a parameter string, then a folder is meant, e.g. |...|ContentManager|Columns|Author| (the Author folder). Without the vertical bar, the manual refers to a key, e.g. (…|Columns|Author|DisplayIndex).

Creating a new key and assigning a value will be written as NewKey=Value. For example, Enabled=TRUE.

Folder level

Folders and keys can be located in three different parameter levels: global, local and user. Any rights assigned via parameters are additive. For settings, the user level configuration normally takes priority followed by the local and then global settings.

If the folder level can be chosen at will, the parameter path has a triple dot prefix e.g. |...|ContentManager|Menu|, where ...| can be replaced by |Global|, |Local| or |User|[UserName]|

KeysNewKey=Value - Creating a new key and assigning a value to it, e.g. Enabled=TRUE

Variable Folder names

Folders with variable names are set in brackets e.g. |User|[UserName]||ContentManager|Menu|[Menu Item].

The subkey variable |…| means that a key either has a freely definable title or multiple variations of the same folder (e.g. 1, 2, 3,….).

Warning:

The Web Admin and the Admin.exe use different notations for the parameter section. Admin.exe relies on web registry conventions, while the new Web administrator uses a more intuitive notation. This documentation will use the Web Administrator's notation. When using Admin.exe please refer to the table below:

Web AdministratorAdmin.exe
FoldersKeys / Subkeys
KeysRegistry Items
NameEntry
ValueValue
  • Letter casing has no significance in the parameter section. e.g. 'CoNfiG' = 'config'
  • Changes made in the DigaSystem Administrator can affect both the DPE web applications and Database Manager.
  • You can use both the Web Administrator and the Administrator.exe if they are configured to access the same global, local and user .par files. In the Web Admin, click on the Parameters menu in order to access the parameter tree.
