Technical specifications of current RME breakoutbox

Q: What breakoutbox do you suggest after Tascam stopped the production of IF-AE8HR?

A: We strongly recommend to use products from RME. The quality of those products is very well. Customers who are using RME products are really satisfied. These products are available through D.A.V.I.D.

Q: What are the technical specifications?

A: There are two products available:

- RME ADI-8 DS for analog inputs and outputs (http://www.rme-audio.de/products_adi_8_ds.php)

8 x Analog I/O
1 x ADAT I/O
1 x TDIF-I/O
1 x Wordclock I/O
Samplerate: up to 96 kHz

- RME ADI-192 DD for AES/EBU inputs and outputs (http://www.rme-audio.de/products_adi_192_dd.php)

4 x AES/EBU I/O
2 x ADAT I/O (optical)
2 x TDIF I/O (Sub-D)
2 x SPDIF I/O (optical)
1 x Wordclock I/O

Q: The analog breakoutbox does only offer standard phone jack. That's not professional. What do you think?

A: That's not correct. They also offer a SUB-D connector which can be used instead of the stereo jack. This is a professional way to make stable connections. All signal lines are symmetric.

Q: How many audio channels can I use with standard Mixtreme 192 PCI?

A: The Soundscape Mixtreme 192 PCI will be delivered with two TDIF interfaces. One is situated on the card, another one can be attached as a seperate slot panel. Each TDIF interface offers 4 stereo lines in bidirectional way.

Q: Does that mean that I need two breakoutboxes if I want to have e.g. 6 physical audio outputs?

A: Right. You need to connect two breakoutboxes to the Mixtreme if you need more than 4 audio lines.

Q: I want to use Mixtreme for playout and for recording. Do I need two breakoutboxes, one for inputs and one for outputs? I just need 4 physical audio lines.

A: No. Mixtreme and breakoutbox both support bidirectional routing. You can connect one RME breakoutbox to the Mixtreme to have e.g. 4 output channels and 1 input channel. There is no short circuit or loop because Mixtreme handles inputs and outputs seperately.

Q: Does RME remember the settings during Power Off?

A: Yes. After reconnecting the power the last used configuration will be loaded.

Q: What are the dimensions of the breakoutbox?

A: The breakoutbox is a 19" unit with 1 u heigth.

Q: Is the TDIF cable included?

A: No, it has to be bought seperately. D.A.V.I.D. can offer a special handmade cable.
