timeline

actual working area representing the audio timeline


track

the timeline consists of one or more tracks

Each track represents a stereo audio timeline. Several tracks are mixed to one stereo output. (Except for channel routing, see specific page.)

Clipboard pane

Container which holds available media objects to work with.

To be distinguished from the Windows clipboard, which is also used by Audio Editors

clipboard

Windows clipboard which holds data for cut, copy and paste operations

Distinguish from Audio Editors' Clipboard pane, which is a visible container for media objects.




accelerator

toolbar

bar with most usual control items (usually on top of the window)

tooltip

take

audio object represented by a file or database entry

Takes are never overwritten or changed by DigaSystem Audio Editors. All editing is non-destructive.

rendering (also to render)

applying audio manipulation functions question mark

When audio is played out from the editor's timeline, edit operations are applied on it. This includes cuts, fading, effects, mixing, etc. This processing is called rendering and occurs for playout and saving the timeline in different contexts.

selection

can mean object selection (audio objects, clipboard objects, MTS tracks, etc.)

can mean time range selection in timeline


time range

mark in

mark out

in editors' timeline a range between mark in and mark out is called time range selection


timecode

Time of day for a position inside the track

This is the recording time (as defined in an audio's meta data) plus the timeline position
